A rousing if anonymous version of H. Rider Haggard's 1886 imperialist adventure about a safari in search of a lost diamond mine. In a good print (rare), the Technicolor photography of the African locations and jungle critters (by Robert Surtees) is genuinely thrilling. Andrew Marton, MGM's perennial second unit ace, directed the memorable action scenes; the rather lumpy dialogue passages are the work of Compton Bennett. With Stewart Granger, Deborah Kerr, Richard Carlson, and Hugo Haas (1950).
