You will not need any fancy ideas about "theater"—in the script-following, plot-having, Aristotelian sense—when you sit down to watch this raw, occasionally breathtaking work from Pride Films and Plays, which unfolds over a set of six highly articulate bodies, a mattress, and some discarded clothes. Pairing fragments of poetry with a series of tightly choreographed pas de deux, the ensemble leans on the dialectical techniques of contact improv to explore the place where sex and power—and, less effectively, gender—intersect. The female performers feel like an afterthought in a piece that's clearly about the fluidity of anima/animus within and among men, but the male performers range from the very promising to the unexpectedly exquisite. After 70 minutes of billowing quantities of borrowed text, you may feel like you're trying to kiss someone who keeps talking. You want to say, Shh. —Marya Hornbacher
