Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his real-life wife, Jaya, are paired on-screen for the first time in 20 years in this 2001 melodrama by Karan Johar. The Indian cinema's other reigning god, Shah Rukh Khan, plays their adopted son, who's disowned after he marries a cheeky young thing (Kajol) from the wrong side of Delhi. The lovers run off to London, accompanied by the bride's tarty sister (Kareena Kapoor), and the groom's younger brother (the superb dancer Hrithik Roshan) follows, hoping to mend the family rift. An extremely catchy score accompanies the big-budget dance sequences by Farah Khan; the standout is the joyous “Say "Shava Shava,'” with nearly the entire cast backing up the elegant Amitabh. In Hindi with subtitles. 210 min.
