Hello Pineapple, this is Miss Foozie, and I want to personally thank you for taking the time out from your busy schedule to write an article about little ole me. "Miss Foozie: The transvestite, bouffant-blonde Hostess of Halsted Street. 'Nuff said" ["Where the Gays Are," September 22].

Miss Foozie was so happy about the article until you mentioned that I am a transvestite? No, no, Pineapple, Miss Foozie is not a transvestite, but a female impersonator or character that I have created, who has been voted for four years in a row as Chicago's best female impersonator by my adoring fans in the Chicago Free Press. Nothing wrong for those who are transvestite, transsexual, bi, creed, straight, gay, lesbian, color, or race. Miss Foozie loves everyone, and maybe that's why I'd like to ask you for a small favor?

Miss Foozie has a great reputation among her fans and one day wants to spread her name throughout this land of ours as well as throughout the world. To accomplish and pursue my dreams, I do not want anyone to get the wrong impression that I am a transvestite but a female impersonator or character who loves to have fun and to make sure that everyone who meets me would leave with a smile on their face or a small lasting impression in their hearts.

Would you please retract the statement you mentioned in your paper or submit this article in your newspaper? Your cooperation in this manner will be deeply appreciated.

With love always,

Miss Foozie

Kathie Bergquist replies:

I regret the error and bow to Miss Foozie for pointing it out to me.
