Visual artists O'Shaughnessy and Williams employ traditional "women's things' to challenge stereotypes women face; OShaughnessy through sculpture,
Williams through traditional craft.

Re: “Can artists save Grand Crossing?

Theastor is visionary, to combine Urban Planning with visual arts is, once done, a perfect complementary relationship. He is motivational as well, so I have no doubt he will make changes. I predict MacArthur will recognize his "genius" .

Re: “Jesse Howard and Judith Roth

Gallery hours Mon.-Fri., 8:30am to 5:30pm

Jesse Howard and Judith Roth are Chicago-based artists. They work in pastels, charcoal and oils although they consider their primary medium the human form, and the drawn line their mode of expression. When they met decades ago, Jesse was a boy whom Judith advised about his art. Howard and Roth now have compatible goals for their work and are visually in sync, although other aspects of their lives were, and still are, very different from each other.

At Chicago State University they will exhibit their paintings and drawings side-by-side for the first time. An unlikely pairing in a traditionally racially divided city, Roth made an impact on a promising young artist who never forgot the encouragement she gave him. Howard and Roth reach deep within their hearts and minds to produce art that makes powerful comments on the human condition.

Judith Roth grew up in Boston, MA and attended the Boston Museum School, attending Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine the summer before her senior year. She earned a B.F.A. from Tufts University. Roth continued her training at the School of the Art Institute and the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago.

Jesse Howard grew up on the west side of Chicago. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in commercial art from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. During the fall of 2010 Howard was one of the artists exhibiting in the Chicago Artists Coalition’s competitive Art Loop Open.

Both artists have shown extensively in the United States and are in various private and public collections.
Jesse Howard and Judith Roth: Drawings and Paintings is open to the public: January 19, 2011 to February 28, 2011
Parking on campus is $5.00.

Re: “Sapphire and Crystals: Routes to Roots

Sixteen African American artists are represented in this exhibition. We collaborated on an installation/altar and we had a self portrait art auction during the opening reception. All works were purchased. We will have a gallery talk on Nov. 7 from 2-4 pm and a closing reception and silent auction on Dec. 5 from 4-7 pm.

The range of work includes: photography, sculpture, ceramics, figurative, abstract, realism, surrealism and more. The gallery is open from Tues. through Sat. and is FREE.
