Musicians on the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Roosevelt University, and cellist Wendy Warner join forces presenting classical, folk, and vodou-inspired music from Haiti, France, and West Africa. The program will include Haitian classical pieces by "the black Chopin" Ludovic Lamothe, the Vodou Jazz Sonata by Julio Racine, and vodou-inspired trios for fute and strings by Werner Jaegerhuber. Representing the regions from which Haitian culture draws most deeply, the program will also include French composer Claude Debussy's cello sonata and Samuel Akpabot's arrangement of traditional Nigerian dances for string quartet.
