Re: “Where's the waiting in Court Theatre's Waiting for Godot?

I saw it yesterday. I really wanted to like it. It was the worst theatre production I've ever seen. The acting was atrocious and incongruous. Everything was over-acted. They were practically begging for laughs with shuck and jive moves and toothy grins, and what's worse, the audience gave them the laughs. The lines are all delivered in a horrible vaudevillian looney-tunes schtick that make them meaningless. As the review points out, the actors don't seem to talk to each other at all. There is no rhythm to any of the dialogue. Each one is delivering a poorly timed over-acted monologue throughout.

Is Vladimir supposed to be homosexual in the original reading? Or is that just the actor's preference coming through in badly acted slapstick?

And the accents are horrible. Vladimir does a warmed over version of what is supposed to be "southern blues" singing in the middle of the play. But the rest of the play, he speaks in a strange almost British annunciation, like a high schooler reading shakespeare.

I tried hard to hear the actual play through the acting, but it was almost impossible. I was angry by the time I left.
