Re: “Boys in the Basement

Thanks for coming to the show Marissa, it's a significant milestone for a three-year-old theater company like ours to have a Reader reviewer attend one of our performances. And thanks for your comments, you've given me some things to think about as I consider script revisions after we close this coming weekend. I've seen lots of plays and movies featuring women complaining about their cheating ex-husbands, to the point where the divorce stereo-type is that the man must have cheated. I wanted to remind people that isn't always the case. But more importantly I wanted men to think about how they move on from a divorce. Do they simply wallow in their personal "basement" blaming their ex for all their woes and treating others badly in the process? Or do they seek the help they need to start new lives while still staying active fathers in the lives of their children? I also want to convey just how precious the gift of love in a marriage is and how it should never been neglected or taken for granted, as one of my characters does with disastrous results. And lastly I wanted to show that even amid the carnage of divorce, true love can still sprout anew.
