Re: “The 'opt-out' testing movement goes beyond the north side

Question for the anti-testing folks who seem to be the majority in this discussion: if we progressives eventually achieve our goal of getting an elected school board in Chicago, what good will an elected school board do if voters don't have standardized test data to determine if they should re-elect an incumbent board member or support a challenger? I don't get it.

Re: “The 'opt-out' testing movement goes beyond the north side

Ms. Redeaux-Smith is half right. She's totally right that it's brutally unjust to standardize the measures of academic achievement without equalizing and standardizing the resources which are the principal determinant of that achievement. But it would be much better for her to use the the time freed up by her students opting out of tests to do genuine teaching/learning and preparing her students for life rather than inculcating her kids with her anti-testing ideology. It won't be long before Ms. Redeaux-Smith's students are out in the real world getting jobs. When one of her students has finished training for his/her job and it's time to take the employer's test to determine if he/she is ready to start the job, her former student's employer will be singularly unimpressed with the former student's exquisite argument learned in Ms. Redeaux-Smith's classroom as to why it's unfair for a new hire to have to take a test.
