Re: “Grant Park Orchestra with Elizabeth Stanley, Alex Gemignani, and Tedd Firth

This was a great show. Elizabeth absolutely did an amazing and beyond sultry job on "Sooner or Later" and had me swooning in my seat. Alex Gemignani was great, too, and did the best on-key version of "Being Alive" I have ever heard. The orchestra, led by Paul Gemignani and Tedd Firth on piano gave outstanding perfomances of all the music, which featured the Sondheim suites, which I'd never heard, and I understand that the suite from "Sweeney Todd" was a premiere. This was a thrilling night of Sondheim's music I won't soon forget.

Re: “Martin Theatre, Ravinia Festival

We went to see Carol Lawrence last night at Ravinia and it was dreadful. Poor thing. Suffice it to say that we left at 950PM after she performed a tap number (that was actually good), disappeared from the stage, and the house lights came up abruptly. None of the ushers were aware of what was going on, but about three minutes later (as people were filing out), someone announced that there would be a fifteen minute intermission. This after she started 35 minutes late. It was sad. There was more awfulness, too. The bit where Carol collected men from the audience to perform with her could have been a fun bit, but was far too long and tedious. The gentleman who performed as part of the show was a refreshingly professional respite from the rest of the show and will be grateful that I do not mention his name here. Kudos to him! Carol has star quality and it showed from time to time, but someone needs to take control of this show and whip it into shape. I don't know which was worse; the recorded music when she had a perfectly capable piano player there, or the video segments projected onto the wall rather than a screen. Carol, if you're getting your act together and taking it on the road (Branson and Broadway, I think you said), then get it together BEFORE you take it on the road! Please don't let this be seen anywhere else before LOTS of rehearsal. We love you and are emabarassed for you!
