Re: “Pulling Up Anchor on Jewish Devon

The last time I was in Rosenblum was around 1973 when I was the administrator of The Ark on Lawrence Avenue, which was on a second floor suite of offices above Rosenblum's at the corner of St. Louis Avenue. I've been watching Chicago Jewish real estate change hands nearly all my life. Does anyone still remember Atereth Zion Congregation at 1132 N. Spaulding near Humboldt Park? Does anyone remember B'nai Shalom on Ainslie and Sawyer across from Hibbard school? Does anyone remember Beth Jacob Feder on Kimball just north of Sawyer? The last two addresses are in Albany Park.

The last time I saw Atereth Zion it was a Puerto Rican church. Both Bnai Shalom and Beth Jacob Feder were Korean churches. It is more than a sociological phenomenon. It is living testimony to the wandering instinct we still have from the time when the wandering Abraham wandered over most of the Middle East from Aram Naharaim to Mitzraim, from Mesopotamia to Egypt. After Skokie, where to?

I now live in Southern California.
