"That movie progresses more naturally than this one, which can't afford to introduce a single character unless there's a significant payoff later."

I find that a pretty disingenuous comment, considering that quite a few characters in Boyhood appear in one or two scenes, seeming as if they are going to become major characters, only to disappear from the rest of the movie, having drifted out of Mason's life forever. I thought that was one of the things that made Boyhood seem so true-to-life and interesting.
