Re: “A modest suggestion for paying tribute to Mayor Jane Byrne

If level of controversy, merit or even a debate about whether this is a worthy discussion --if these thing were always discussed when remembering every man that has been President, Governor and Mayor of Chicago there would be no place to put this article in the Reader. In this political boys town let me just offer, that the fact that a women was elected mayor of Chicago deserves some "in your face" remembrance. I was thinking as I read this of the saying, "well behaved women rarely make history." Well even if you are not, you'll be ignored too. There are 15 women alderman now. Should we be proud that Chicago is slightly outpacing Congress by 8%? I don't agree with the politics of most women in office nor most of the men. Taking down an incumbent, machine or not is tough, but also a woman. I suggest we rename Navy Pier and maybe build a WWI Naval Memorial instead:) If our current mayor and Sneed want to lead the charge, I say let them. I will lead the charge in 30 years to remember a well financed one-term mayor of Chicago on our current mayor's behalf, maybe Divvy bike license plates or something.
