Re: “Chatty Cathy, Yeti vs. Yeti, Levels

As a former Chicago musician I made it a point to see these up and coming local bands. Levels took the stage first in a stripped down two person set. With just two guitars a tamborine and vocals they put on a very mellow, yet intriguing proformance that left you wanting more. With melodic folky like numbers and sort of Radio Headish guitar work, this band is headed in the right direction and I would of liked to see them with all the members of this outfit.

Following them was Yeti vs. Yeti. This was their EP release party and party they did. This is a two peice consisting of drums, bass, and vocals. Yeti was definetly heavier than the first band with one Yeti shredding the bass and the other playing the drums in almost a spastic like manor, spastic meaning awesome! Even though this was only a two peice they had enough energy to fill two Quenchers. As they had the full attention of the audience they ripped through their set ass if they were having the time of their lifes. They were a blast to watch. Fun show.

Headlining the night was Chatty Cathy. I've heard a lot about this band from numerous people and was told they were a must see. They were right. This is a three peice consisting of guitar, bass and drums with one vocal. Playing tunes from their newly released album (hands and teeth) which I purchased first thing this morning this band is a style all their own. With almost falsetto like vocals at times combined with melodic arpeggios, solid biting bass lines and druming that could not be tighter, this band blew me away. Along with very complex time signatures and change of direction at any time I'd say these guys really have it together. They can go from almost dancey, trancey grooves to a distorted fuzz punch to the face and then back to the dancey groove without warning. Being extremely polished this trio has definitely caught our attention and we can't wait for more. They are a must see.

That's it for now.
keep it coming Chicago
