Jack's Precious Moment | CIC Theater | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through Feb. 25 2012
Price: $5-$20
When contractor Jack is kidnapped and beheaded by Islamic jihadists while building cell phone towers in Iraq, his good-old-boy fundamentalist Christian father calls him a war hero and his wife designs a Precious Moments figurine to honor his memory. But Jack's troubled twin brother, Bib, thinks the jihadists had it right. Meanwhile, a traveling carnival-ride operator with a dismemberment fetish makes a play for Bib's heart. Playwright Samuel Hunter mixes harrowing psychological trauma with wacky black comedy and ends up with an unwieldy muddle; Azar Kazemi's adroit cast mine the mess for emotional truth and, astonishingly, come up with truckloads in this Will Act for Food staging. Ed Porter's childlike performance as the shell-shocked Bib is endearing, absurd, and heartbreaking. —Justin Hayford
