Re: “Japonais

It was an interesting night. Japonais is supposed to have this "presence" which was totally blown. The waitperson was one of the last to check in tableside to see if we needed any beverages. Once he got on the roll of what I would call his theatre presentation, things moved on better. Unfortunately, water wasn't even brought until after the second appetizer. The waiter suggested we leave the meal in his hands, no menu. We're rather open individuals, so we went along. Unfortunately, he didn't understand that we didn't want an entire meal of appetizers, though we had asked to have entrees included in. By the time we had received no less than 6 appetizers, the entrees started arriving. It would have been better if before bringing the entrees, especially after all the appetizers, he had asked how hungry or adventurous we still were. Nothing was extraordinary. Most of the fish was very fresh. Only two fish on the appetizers we fishy smelling as well as very "strong" tasting. Even though there were no diners waiting, we were rushed through our meal. After finishing dinner we decided to check out their lounge in the lower level. Looked like something out of an old disco basement. Most of the patrons were all very casually dressed, not to mention overserved and rather rude.

I don't know how the gents' lavatories were, but upon entering the ladies I encountered two "young women" who happened to be very "involved" were making out at the sink. After I'd used the commode room, they decided the restroom was vacant for their "usage." I'm not a prude mind you; still, there's a time and a place for everything. On my second trip to the ladies' room, I was greeted by some "young lady" who had been very overserved, who was doing her best to clean herself up after tossing her cookies. Much more riffraff and young debauchery than I had expected to find in a place like this. If you're a youngster and looking for a pickup joint try the lower level lounge...you're sure to get lucky. This isn't a place anymore that is maintaining its decorum.
