Drama, Horror, Suspense/Thriller
This local independent production hinges on an odd two-part narrative structure. In the first half a Chicago truck driver with a mysterious past (Tim Miller) starts receiving strange phone messages during a romantic weekend with his tattoo-artist girlfriend. In the second he returns to the backwater community of his youth, where his family has been engaged in a Hatfield-McCoy-like blood feud for generations. The move from an urban setting to a rural one is reflected by a shift from realism to something more primal and nightmarish; this left turn into horror practically invalidates the preceding drama but displays a commendable formal ambition. John Mossman, a Chicago stage veteran who cofounded the north-side company the Artistic Home, directed a script he cowrote with Miller.
