“Art,” experimental violinist Laurie Anderson recently said, “is about making time and space for awareness to naturally occur.” That kind of cognizance seems especially crucial in performance art, which, with its lack of definition, can quickly spiral into sloppiness without a proper guide. At opening night of Infiltration, an eight-week collaboration between Beauty Bar’s weekly Salonathon and the Neo-Futurists, awareness was given short shrift, though. Artist Kiam Marcelo Junio, who typically challenges gender and military notions via his drag alter-ego Jerry Blossom, instead indulged in an abstract life cycle routine, complete with muddled intentions and a badly-edited audio track. As of now, Infiltration needs a healthy dose of clarity and purpose. With seven artists to come, let’s hope it gets some. —Chloe Riley
