Price: $25, $20 in advance
This Nashville group won Album of the Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association with their 2007 debut, Fork in the Road, and on their self-titled sophomore record, also on Sugar Hill, they sound even better—more like a tight, unified working band. The warm, relaxed major-key melodies and honky-tonk feel make the Infamous Stringdusters’ original tunes sound more like contemporary country than traditional mountain music, but these guys are bluegrass naturals with the monster chops and elaborate, spot-on vocal harmonies to prove it. They steer clear of jamgrass, keeping their arrangements lean and direct, and even the schlocky, syrupy ballads aren’t as terrible as most Music City crossover attempts—mainstream bluegrass doesn’t get any better than this. —Peter Margasak
