In this dreary 2001 French feature by Yamina Benguigui, a young wife and mother (Fejria Deliba) must leave her Algerian family and, along with her three children, rejoin her cold husband in northern France after a ten-year separation. Dominated by him and his spiteful mother, she tries to expand her horizons through tentative friendships, which gives him more excuses to beat her. More likely he'd be enraged by her unauthorized household expenditures and her Sunday ramble with a flirtatious bus driver, but plausibility is not the movie's strong suit. In French and Arabic with subtitles. 98 min.
