Genesis Ensemble's 45-minute performance piece orchestrates snippets from a few centuries worth of romantic correspondence--letters, telegrams, blog posts, instant messages--with the declared intention of asking, "Does the way we communicate affect the way we love?" It's a provocative question which the piece never gets around to addressing. Under Kat Paddock's direction, a nine-person ensemble offer perfunctory glimpses into largely featureless relationships. A mostly silent, black-clad dancer acts as a kind of emotional emissary between lovers without adding any psychological depth. And most curious of all, one actor sits upstage throughout the show, introducing some of the segments with brief, barely audible phrases, then reads EB White's "To My Valentine" without giving the poet credit. --Justin Hayford
