Former high school football stars Roy and Cody, now pushing 40, break into the home of former high school football referee Wallace, now pushing death. Wallace may've made the bad call that cost Roy and Cody their homecoming game, so perhaps they've come for revenge. In any case, the three stalk one another through 90 minutes of veiled threats, bared souls, and overindulged scotch. Playwright James Still tries to tie the men's desperate predicaments to the decaying of America's middle class—a feat the exemplary cast of Sandy Shinner's American Blues Theater production might handily accomplish with better material. But the play is rife with implausibilities (Wallace's near indifference to late-night intruders, Roy's unassailable belief that one lost football game ruined his life), so little rings true. —Justin Hayford
