Action, Science fiction, Thriller
This sci-fi thriller may be adapted from a young adult novel, but it feels like a big-screen version of Smallville, the TV series created by screenwriters Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. An orphaned teen (Alex Pettyfer) and his guardian (Timothy Olyphant), both refugees from another planet, flee when the brutal invaders from their world arrive on earth looking for them; the teen decides to quit running after he meets a pretty student (Diana Agron) in a small Ohio town, and he sublimates his emerging sex drive by mastering his nascent super powers. Producers Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg deploy an arsenal of noisy special effects to demonstrate the invaders’ high-tech superiority, which makes Olyphant’s inability to breach an Internet firewall look pretty silly. D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) directed.
