Comer Children's Hospital Visit patients, comfort people in the surgery waiting room, help in the children's playroom, assist with the book cart, or donate blood. Or join groups such as the Forefront Stitchers, who meet once a week to knit shawls, caps, and blankets for patients. You must be 16+ and commit to at least four hours a week. Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House Lead tours and assist with special events and educational programs, or work in the office, gift shop, and info booths (summer only). Hyde Park Art Center See Art & Museums. Help install exhibits, assist with family-friendly art workshops on Second Sundays, staff the Hyde Park Jazz Festival, or help with "Cocktails and Clay," where ceramics classes include a bar and exhibits stay open until midnight. Metro Squash This nonprofit empowers Chicago Public Schools students through the sport of squash. About 60 students get academic instruction and squash lessons three days a week after school. Volunteers (who must be high school sophomores or older) mostly help with academic tutoring, although chaperones are also needed for field trips and community service projects. Museum of Science & Industry See Art & Museums. Act as an exhibit guide and lead interactive activities. Adults and teens (14-17) must commit to 40 hours a year (with no less than one shift every three months) and, once accepted, must attend an orientation.
