The University of Chicago's 27th annual "day of reading, research, and response," formerly known as the University of Chicago Humanities Open House offers more than 30 lectures, tours, and performances by faculty and staff. This year's keynote address, "The Marvelous Real: Marco Polo's Legacy to European Romance," is by English professor Michael Murrin (11 AM, Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th); it's preceded by a performance by Silk Road Ensemble member Yang Wei. Programs ranging from "Animals and Consciousness" to "Song and Dance in Bollywood Cinema" to "Bodiless Voices in Classical Fairy Tales" are offered in three sessions, at 9:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3 PM, at various locations on the U. of C. campus. Advance registration is required.
