In keeping with the trend toward personal documentary (e.g., Sherman's March), Avi Mograbi's 1997 video has less to do with the Israeli politician and ex-general than with the filmmaker's attitudes toward him and how making the video affected his life (his wife left him). The leftist Mograbi retreats into fantasy during the right-wing Likud's 1996 election victories, dramatizing his dreams of Sharon and finally imagining himself as an overenthusiastic partisan of Netanyahu. This absurdist humor has its appeal, but those unfamiliar with recent history will find themselves at sea. Mograbi mentions the refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila without explaining Sharon's alleged connection to the massacres of Palestinians that took place there; the Sharon of the video looks merely silly.
