House of Ladosha, Juliana Huxtable Ladosha, Banjee Report

When: Thu., Sept. 5, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: $10, $5 before midnight
House of Ladosha’s hypersexualized queer take on rap music has been praised for its deconstruction of hip-hop masculinity and sexuality, but the temptation to go Derrida on it runs counter to the music’s intense hedonism. Dosha Devastation and Cunty Crawford Ladosha specialize in repurposing big rap songs (mostly by big, straight, male performers such as Rick Ross) as conduits for the performative cattiness that the drag and ball scenes—especially in New York, the group’s home base—have elevated into an art form, and the results are among the most hilariously raunchy and highly entertaining recordings on the market. In the short time the pair have been playing out, their shows have become almost legendary for their outrageousness. They perform here courtesy of Banjee Report, a combination party, blog, and podcast that’s become one of the better-known faces of a widespread movement dedicated to infusing modern hip-hop with the transgressive energy of the 90s gay club scene. —Miles Raymer Banjee Report regulars 1WO and Mister Wallace & Aceboombap host; House of Ladosha headlines, and Juliana Huxtable Ladosha opens with a DJ set.
