Hot Woks Cool Sushi | Roscoe Village | Asian, Japanese, Chinese | Restaurant
Third location of the popular pan-Asian restaurant, in the former Kaze space.

Our Review

In the manner of a fast-expanding chain, this pleasantly appointed sushi bar has opened outlets from Old Irving Park to the Loop, apparently in the belief that if it can't be a destination restaurant it can bring the food to the customers. The Roscoe Village location makes that seem a sound business plan. There's nothing too new or unusual, but the sushi is fresh and firm. Rama chicken was a bit heavy on the peanut sauce, but was served on a bed of lush broccoli. Among specials, the tuna tataki was perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned with a crusty skin of pepper and spices. Novelty-name alert: rolls include the Fukudome, after the Cubs' disappointing Japanese import, and the Obama-Nami, a mixture of cooked and raw sushi meant to please everyone, but especially patriots, as it's topped by an explosion of red fish eggs and a toothpick American flag.
