Kristina "Teeny" Lieberson, who used to play keyboards with Here We Go Magic, formed this art-pop quintet with two of her sisters—Lizzy and Katherine—and their vocal harmonies are the best thing about their recent debut, In Limbo (Car Park). Once you hear it, you won't be surprised to learn that their father was an acclaimed classical composer, Peter Lieberson—the siblings' tricky parts recall Baroque music as often as they nod to Brill Building pop. Though Teen has to be relatively sophisticated in order to bring to mind either of those influences, there's also an appealing raggedness to the collision of postpunk ennui and girl-group ebullience in the band's keyboard-dominated tracks (which get the obligatory layers of washed-out reverb from producer Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3). The only real problem is tunes overstaying their welcomes; needless repetition pushes most of them past the five-minute mark. There's nothing juvenile about this material, though, despite the band name—the longing and loneliness in several songs seem to arise from the death of the Liebersons' father last year—and when all the elements click together (on "Electric," for instance), it's hard to resist. —Peter Margasak Hospitality headlines.
