Re: “DePaul's men's basketball team on the rebound

This article is an absolute journalistic disappointment. It should have focused on DePaul's athletic department as a whole and how it has been thoroughly mismanaged by Jean Lenti Ponsetto for the last decade. During that span, it has resembled "It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown" because the only consistently competitive intercollegiate programs have been women's basketball and softball. Wish Field/Cacciatore Stadium is good for softball but an embarrassment for soccer because of its lack of permanent seating and the pitch being way too narrow. They exchanged the unique-looking Alumni Hall for a broom closet named McGrath-Phillips Arena. And they want its men's basketball matches to be played in a McCormick Place facility that would involve the use of some taxpayers money.

The United Center has submitted an offer that the university would be stupid to refuse - ten years of free rent and other perks. Ten years should be enough time for the university to raise more funds and find a site on or near the Lincoln Park campus for its own arena. I seriously doubt that this will happen because there isn't anyone working for DePaul who has the guts, brains or creativity to make this project progress forward.
