This is a burlesque in both senses of the word: a rough and rowdy parody as well as an evening of young women stripping down to pasties and thongs. The two elements don't quite fit together, the striptease sometimes feeling shoehorned in. But a charming, improvisational looseness makes the enterprise work. C.J. Tuor's witty script effectively skewers Mighty Morphin Power Rangers—the 1990s kids' TV series, which admittedly makes an easy target—and some of the ecdysiasts, Typsy Gypsy in particular, are excellent. What's more, there's something wonderfully subversive and liberating about the show's refusal to conform to pop-media definitions of female beauty. Bobby Hoffman's attractive, eight-member cast embrace a wonderfully wide variety of body types, from petite to plus-plus. —Jack Helbig
