Writer-performer Dean Evans birthed this wacky mime show last June as a contribution to Collaboraction's Sketchbook festival. Now the little darling has grown to 70 minutes. Way scarier, funnier, and more R-rated than any mime has a right to be, the bulbous, lemon-costumed title character has no compunction about talking—a lot, generally in a fruity English accent. He tries to get the audience talking, too—not to mention drawing, whispering in one another's ears, and (in his dreams!) confessing our most shameful secrets. I'm generally OK with audience participation only if somebody else is doing the participating, but even I was comfortable as part of the crowd onstage, looking like a member of a prayer group gone horribly awry. Occasional dead spots and too much speechifying suggest that Honeybuns has burgeoned beyond its optimal dimensions, but overall it's great fun. —Laura Molzahn
