Affecting performances anchor this harrowing 2006 tale of child trafficking in Cambodia. Ron Livingston (Music Within) stars as an unlucky gambler adrift in a sea of dissolute expats in Phnom Penh who regains his moral compass by rescuing a 12-year-old Vietnamese girl (newcomer Thuy Nguyen) sold into prostitution by her impoverished family. Director Guy Moshe and his cowriter, Guy Jacobson, craft a perceptive, urgent drama that's heartbreaking without being maudlin. Virginie Ledoyen (A Single Girl) appears as a human rights activist who backgrounds the tragedy, and Chris Penn, in one of his final roles, plays a cynical black marketeer. In English and subtitled in Khmer and Vietnamese. 114 min.
