Hey! Is Dee Dee Home?

After Ramones bassist Douglas Colvin (aka Dee Dee Ramone) died of a heroin overdose in June 2002, filmmaker Lech Kowalski slapped together this video tribute from interview footage he'd shot with Dee Dee ten years earlier for another project. The punk icon speaks at length about things close to his heart: making music, shooting dope, getting tattooed, shooting dope, kicking dope, shooting dope. In the book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, Dee Dee speaks poignantly of his frustration at being a middle-aged man and still having to dress up every night in a ripped T-shirt and motorcycle jacket, like some rock 'n' roll Leo Gorcey; his remarks here are equally reflective, but this still seems a pretty tacky epitaph. 63 min.
