The sentient Volkswagen of Disney's 1969 live-action comedy The Love Bug returns, with a zippy opening montage to bring younger viewers up to speed on its earlier adventures. Herbie is rescued from the junkyard by a former racing champion (Michael Keaton) and his tomboy daughter (Lindsay Lohan), and before long she's dreaming of NASCAR glory behind the wheel of the old bug. Matt Dillon almost runs away with the movie as a preening, conniving NASCAR champ who may be dumber than a box of rocks but realizes there's something up with the VW. Director Angela Robinson (D.E.B.S.) has sure comic instincts, and the winning sound track features the Beach Boys, Lionel Richie, and Loverboy. G, 92 min.
