Henry's Swing Club

From the DMK Restaurants team comes this bar with a 70s vibe

Our Review

There's no Henry at Henry's Swing Club. The name comes from a 1947 John Lee Hooker song called "Boogie Chillen'." This information fails to convey anything about the actual Henry's Swing Club, a cavernous, garage-like space in River North, populated by young men in ties and young women bearing expensive bags. But contrary to its cold, downtown facade, Henry's is, at heart, a 70s wood paneled basement with shag carpeting (either mustard-colored or avocado). This becomes obvious when you examine the menu, which features nachos, tacos, and sliders—not just burgers, but also those Ford-era classics, the Elvis (peanut butter, bacon, and banana) and fried bologna. (You can also order up a game of Uno for $8.) The service is cheerful and friendly, and the bartenders really know how to mix up a drink. Cocktails here are strong, not watery, and mixed so that the syrups, bitters, and other flavorings fully stand up to the alcohol. It's probably just as well that there aren't actual beanbag chairs and sagging couches here. Since the cocktail menu tops out at $10 (and beer and cider will set you back far less), you could easily move in and eat little sandwiches all day long.
