Drama, War
At the heart of this drama, a mildly psychological suspense thriller with military trappings, a white lieutenant and law student represents a black lieutenant on trial for murder—both are American prisoners in a German POW camp during World War II—even as he wrestles his own demons. But white, black, German, or American, all of the characters—including the German camp leader and the highest-ranking American prisoner—are divided into only two types, inscrutable and scrutable, and the motives of the latter are all too clear. Gregory Hoblit directed a screenplay by Billy Ray and Terry George, based on a novel by John Katzenbach; with Colin Farrell, Terrence Howard, Marcel Iures, and Bruce Willis.
