What if a character’s tragic flaw was something positive, like being too happy? This idea, mixed with a healthy dose of radical honesty, is explored in Redtwist’s thought-provoking and witty production of Robert Caisley’s satire. When Eduardo invites two old and uncannily chipper friends, married couple Melinda and Alfred, for dinner at his artistic digs, his new girlfriend, Eva, proves to be an "emotional terrorist," serving kebabs with a side of snark that slowly wipes the smiles off their faces. Amanda Powell plays Eva as both a beguiling and shockingly callous enfant terrible; she's the perfect foil to Michael Sherwin’s innocuous and upbeat Alfred. Michael Kingston adds some humor as a man who’s lost control of his house. As Melinda, Melonie Collmann shows relatable vulnerability as she desperately closes and opens her eyes, searching for a silver lining. —Marissa Oberlander
