Just wanted to let you know, Mr. Waddell ["Puerto Rican Days," July 12], that not everybody within the Humboldt Park neighborhood and outside shares Mr. Flores's defeatist attitude about gentrification putting "us" out. This doesn't have to be Lincoln Park all over again. Obviously, the economics ("Whoever has the money to come in and buy changes the face of the neighborhood") are a part of the story, but there's the politics behind gentrification that is a driving force in how this whole city is being contested. Your readership should know that there are plenty of people of the community who, because there is a sense of ownership, are not so easily going to be uprooted.
