Languid and frequently beautiful, this minimalist drama by Matthew Porterfield focuses on an unwed mother in a sleepy Baltimore suburb, the baby's sulky, immature dad, and the dad's disapproving mother. Porterfield barely hints at a story—the characters' relationships become clear only near the end, as they sit unhappily in a church pew—but Porterfield and cinematographer Jeremy Saulnier can find drama in something as small as the complex rhythm of children on a swing set. 65 min.
