When: Sat., Nov. 29, 7 & 10:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $14
Ever since their first single, “Wings,” took off in 2012, Haerts have walked a meandering path toward the release of their debut self-titled LP. As of last month, Columbia has finally released the album, and its glittering, guitar-boosted pop shows off the New York-based band’s European roots (Nini Fabi and Ben Gebert, Haerts’ main songwriters, are from Germany). Haerts temper their gloss and bombast with melancholy, and songs such as “Call My Name” shrink their arrangements down to just a drum machine and a synth or two, as though the band momentarily slipped out of the studio and into a studio apartment.

Louisiana-born songwriter Mikky Ekko has also been sitting on his debut album for a spell: Time is due out on RCA in January. He’s best known for his feature on Rihanna’s hit “Stay,” but he’s slipped out a few singles of his own since, including the bittersweet “Smile” and the surprisingly glitchy “Mourning Doves.” This will likely be the last chance you’ll have to hear either song in a venue as intimate as Schubas. —Sasha Geffen Early show is all ages; late show is sold out.
