Mr. Margasak:

I've long hated your writing and the gutless, cover-your-ass way you go about threading together your seemingly recently acquired points about musicians and why they suck. But with this latest piece [White Stripes Critic's Choice, June 27], you rob a great group of the spirit they possess that makes them important against the dull backdrop of the unprecedentedly pervasive biz. Not their sound, which any borderline nonretard could determine the lineage of, but their spirit and authenticity.
