To the editor:

I have just finished reading Bryan Miller's superbly written article about women and self-defense [February 4]. I am quite surprised that the Reader had the courage to publish an article containing a balanced coverage of the issue despite a widespread antigun political and media bias, especially in Chicago.

For many of us men from high crime areas (I am from New York City), a decision to become armed also involved a moral choice. In many situations, however, a weapon is the only means to insure one's safety and, most importantly, preserve one's dignity. Bravo to Bryan Miller.
