I just read your cover article ["The Good Cop," January 5]. As usual, you've written a strong, balanced piece that recognizes and acknowledges the complexities of people's identities and behavior. Thanks for the good work. Laverty's story needs to be better known.

PS: The article says Martin Luther King was assassinated in June of 1968. Wasn't it actually in April of that year?

I stand corrected on the date of the King assassination. Also, I mistakenly listed attorney Peter Schmiedel as representing Purvy Pointer in the scene in the hospital when George Jones Jr. is brought in as a one-person lineup. Schmiedel was representing Jones.
