Henry Jaglom, the bard of Beverly Hills, satirizes retail therapy in this clattering comedy about an aging fashion maven (Victoria Foyt, Jaglom's wife and cowriter) who discovers she's going to lose her chic clothing shop if she can't come up with $40,000 over Mother's Day weekend. Every scene ends with a gag line, punched up by Jaglom's harried intercutting, and threaded through the story are close-ups of women discussing their obsession with new clothes, an exercise that yields its wisdom in the first 20 minutes and then keeps repeating it. The lipstick smudges of irony can be pretty gross, though Jaglom (Eating, Festival in Cannes) has assembled an agile and energetic cast that includes Rob Morrow, Lee Grant, and more than 40 women as shoppers. PG-13, 106 min.
