Age: 34

Occupation: Commercial broker, appraiser, TV producer, harmonica player.

Apartment size: Three rooms. Mortgage: $500

Location: Wrigleyville

Years in apartment: Ten, but he's moving--the apartment is on the market.

Price ten years ago: $51,000

Asking price today: $159,000

He's given away: Chairs, lamps, plants, books, harmonicas (one to a customer, from a box filled with them), his collection of Playboys, a couch.

He's kept and placed in storage: A CD player made in 1985 (one of the first). Memorabilia from his "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Wall": autographed pictures of Junior Wells and Buddy Guy; photos of Jerry Garcia, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones. Collection of Chicago postcards and family photos.

Not pictured: Apartment security system. His sister accidentally pushed the alarm while he was out. The three police officers who showed up a minute later growled, "Who are you?" When they didn't believe her she exclaimed, "I'm his sister! Look, I'm in this photo!"

In his own words: "I used to come to this neighborhood with my dad when I was a kid, and I thought it would be the coolest thing in the world to be near Wrigley Field. A few weeks ago I played catch in the outfield there. The grass is really plush. It's like a dream."

Art accompanying story in printed newspaper (not available in this archive): photos/Lloyd De Grane.
