An elevated sandwich-and-salad lunch spot from the people behind Goddess and Grocer.

Our Review

The Loop is lousy with Paneras and Corner Bakeries and Au Bon Pains that, sadly, have so lowered our expectations for a quick salad-and-sandwich lunch that we're surprised and delighted when we get a genuine red tomato in a sandwich or taste something labeled "Thai chicken" that has an actual kick to it. Goddess and the Baker, an offshoot of the Goddess and Grocer minichain, really does have red tomatoes (and crunchy bacon and creamy avocado) in its sandwiches and real jalapeños on its Thai chicken flatbread. These things alone are justification for walking a few extra blocks. Dessert was a disappointment, but you probably shouldn't order a slice of rainbow birthday cake and expect any kind of subtlety. The fact that I'm regretting all the things I didn't try, including the nitro Stumptown ice coffee, is probably a sign that I will be back, especially next time I have to meet someone for lunch outside the office.
