For playwrights, repetition can be useful for exploring variations on a theme, heightening tension, creating an absurdist sense of alienation—or boring an audience into a stupor. For nearly four and half hours, Akvavit Theatre achieves the latter with a slogging, stilted production of a tone-deaf triptych written by Jon Fosse and translated by Kyle Korynta. Divided by season, Fosse's one-acts center on an emotionally landlocked couple second-guessing a move to the country, a man whose commitment to his family puts him at odds with his more immediate interests, and a rendezvous between two hopeless souls. In Winter, Bergen Anderson does the most to get some blood pumping in an otherwise anemic collection. —Dan Jakes
