How on EARTH can we allow SUSHI to be sold in the US, but not raw milk cheese? I think this move by the FDA demonstrates the recourse of the real threat American cheese artisans pose for their European counterparts, and the governmental pressure from those European trade partners, on US Government and governmental agencies. I don't think this is a safety issue at all, the artisan cheesemaker is being held hostage by the political food war between old and new world cheeses, and the old world strong arm tactics being employed, to help European cheesemakers hang on to their vanishing US market share. Sadly, the American artisan cheesemaker is being punished for doing things right, and being successful at making delicious, beautiful and PERFECTLY SAFE cheese, in high demand.
