Ghost Town

After dying on the operating table and being brought back to life, an obnoxious Manhattan dentist (Ricky Gervais) discovers that he can see dead people, and they all want his assistance in resolving their unfinished business. Like his fellow Brit Steve Coogan, Gervais became a star playing insufferable oafs on the BBC (The Office, Extras) and has since graduated to high-profile gigs in a Hollywood that seems intent on domesticating him. In this comedy by David Koepp, Gervais handles the big, crowd-pleasing gags with aplomb, though the only scenes that approach the edgy wit of his TV work are those he shares with fellow improvisers Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show With Jon Stewart) and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live). With Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni. PG-13, 102 min.
